Koji Kabuto

 

Daring adventurer.  Fears no enemy.

 

 

Former pilot of Mazinger Z and a legendary character.  He starts off piloting the TFO which he built himself.  Koji's next mission was to come to the Space Science Centre to explore UFO's.  He later becomes a very close friend and brother to Duke Freed after a bitter rivalry.  Duke did not want to associate closely with Koji because he did not want him to find out his real identity.

 

 

Koji will fly over Mount Fuji on his way to the Space Science Centre and will remember the old days of Mazinger Z.  One might wonder why did Koji not pilot Mazinger Z again when he realized the Vegan threat.  I believe that Mazinger Z is not capable of facing Vegan enemies, otherwise Koji might have used it again.  The Vegans are an alien threat and the UFO Robot will be the one that faces them.  They are not as primitive as Dr. Hell or Ankoku Daishogun.

 

 

Koji's TFO gets destroyed in the early battles and he will build another ship that will not last one battle.  Koji is a very ambitious and stubborn young man who will stop at nothing before accomplishing a mission.  He later will develop his new laser beam called the Cyclone Beam.  This Cyclone Beam will be on his new ship the Double Spazer.

 

 

Later, Koji will pilot this Double Spazer which will connect to Grendizer and help it in air battles.  The Double Spazer on its own is a very powerful and capable ship.  The Double Spazer connecting to Grendizer is the same idea as the Jet Scrambler connecting to Mazinger Z.  The difference is that there is in fact two pilots joining forces, Duke Freed and Koji.

 

 

Koji is not just a side character in the Grendizer series.  One can argue that he is the second main character of the series.  Koji is a very daring and risk-taking individual.  He is not afraid of danger and will sometimes get himself into great trouble with the Vegans.

 

 

Koji Kabuto tends to like to see how far a person will hang on before snapping or reacting.  This kind of curiosity is seen with the Vegan enemies, and even with Duke Freed in their first encounters.  Koji loves to boast about his abilities, and he definitely has a lot to be proud of.  He will also compliment others when they achieve something great.

 

 

Koji is also someone who is dedicated to the planet Earth and wants to protect it.  He will get no second thoughts when it comes to fighting a threat, but his draw back is that sometimes he acts quickly and without thinking first.  Overall, Koji is a very capable fighter and helper to Duke Freed.  A number of times Koji actually saved Duke Freed from severe situations.
