UFO Robo  Grendizer vs. Great Mazinger

 

This is the first movie where Grendizer appears on the big screen!  And what a title to attract the audience.  Who would've ever thought of seeing Grendizer fighting Great Mazinger.  Well guess what?  That title is misleading, because it wasn't really a fight, otherwise Grendizer would rip Great Mazinger apart.

 

 

This movie has no real link to the Grendizer series.  However, if put in chronological order, this one would be between episode #23 and episode #25.  This is because Hikaru already knows Daisuke's true identity-Duke Freed.  The strange part that makes this movie out of the series is that Koji's TFO gets destroyed.  In reality, TFO got destroyed in episode #27.

 

 

Captain Barendon comes from Vega to the Skull Moon Base on the Earth's moon.  After damaging some of the base and insulting General Gandal and Commander Blacki, Captain Barendos heads for Earth.  Captian Barendos told General Gandal and Commander Blacki to get ready to be thrown into outer space after he defeats Grendizer.

 

 

Daisuke Umon will go with Hikaru to relax in the near-by forest for a change.  But Daisuke's mind is always with the Earth's safety and he does not forget Vega.  The attack begins and Koji Kabuto launches in TFO to resist the enemy.  Soon Koji gets caught as hostage.

 

 

Being put under a special machine, Koji has no control over what he says and reveals the secrets of Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger to Captain Barendos.  Captain Barendos will go and steal Great Mazinger from the Mazinger museum to use it against Grendizer.

 

 

Duke Freed launches Grendizer to find Koji but instead, he will find Great Mazinger waiting for him along with the Vegan saucer beast "Gin Gin".  Duke Freed is confused and will fight Great Mazinger, but finds a hard time stopping Great Mazinger as a result of the outside interference of the Vegan beasts.

 

 

Koji finally wakes up and finds himself in Captain Bareondos' ship.  Koji will fight his way through the Vegan soldiers and contact Duke Freed.  Koji will tell Duke Freed the weakness of Great Mazinger; hitting Great Mazinger on the back of the wing area will make it not funtion for a while.

 

 

Duke Freed follows Koji's instructions and Great Mazinger becomes locked.  Captain Barendos leaves Great Mazinger and goes back to his ship.  Koji pilots Great Mazinger for the very first time.  Koji Kabuto will help Duke Freed and fight Captain Barendos together and get rid of him for good.

 

 

An interesting note to keep in mind is that Grendizer got hit with nearly every weapon of Great Mazinger but did not suffer any damage.  Grendizer on the other hand did not use his full might against Great Mazinger.

 

 

The most Grendizer did was hit Great Mazinger with the Screw Crusher Punch on its sides to turn it around.  This was done so that Grendizer would hit the back wing of Great Mazinger with the Shoulder Boomerang and make Great Mazinger lock for a while.

 

 

The art in this movie is absolutely amazing.  Very original and very clean.  Grendizer and Great Mazinger both look really good!
